Swedish solar architect to speak

10:36 a.m., March 23, 2004--Hans Eek of Göteborg Energi will speak on “Warm Homes in Sweden: Are Conventional Heating Systems Necessary?” at the Energy and Environmental Policy Colloquium, from noon-1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 1, in the Rodney Room of the Perkins Student Center. Lunch will be provided.

A recognized leader in passive solar architecture, Eek is a practicing architect and research leader at Göteborg Energi, which provides district heating energy services for the city of a half million people. He is one of two project coordinators for Göteborg 2050, whose goal is to create a sustainable city as part of a sustainable society.

Eek’s design of 22 solar townhouses won a Swedish International Environment Prize for its pioneering approach to providing heating services through heat generated by occupants, appliances, lighting and occasionally candles.

The colloquium is sponsored by the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy, the Graduate Program in Environmental and Energy Policy and the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy.

Lunch reservations are requested. For more information and to make reservations, call Terri Bower at 831-8405.
