Blue Hen softball team opens CAA tourney play today

Carolynn Sloat and the Hens open CAA tournament play against Hofstra this afternoon.
9:54 a.m., May 13, 2004--The University of Delaware softball team will be in Colonial Athletic Association championship tournament action this afternoon, taking on the top seed and host Hofstra University at about 3:30 p.m. in Hempstead, N.Y.

The game will follow a noontime game between Towson and James Madison. The tournament is a double-elimination event.

Fans of the Fightin’ Blue Hens can follow the action via the Live Stats feature on the UD athletics web site at [http://www.udel.edu/sportsinfo/].

UD is led by CAA Player of the Year Laura Streets, who is hitting .399, and first team All-CAA pitcher Carolynn Sloat, a freshman who leads the conference in wins and strikeouts.

The Hens are 27-22-1 and hold the fourth seed in the four-team tournament. Hofstra, the defending CAA champion, is the top seed with a record of 30-18.
