Delaware pitcher Sloat is recognized by CAA

Carolynn Sloat
3:51 p.m., April 13, 2004--University of Delaware freshman softball pitcher Carolynn Sloat has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Week.

Sloat was recognized for her performances in a three-game weekend series against CAA co-leader Hofstra University. She went 1-1 with a 2.62 earned run average, snapped Hofstra’s 31-game home conference winning streak with a 4-2 victory on Sunday and picked up her 11th win of the season.

With the win, Sloat tied the UD freshman record for wins, equaling the mark held by Kristi O'Connell (1997) and Kathy Tucci (1987).

Sloat leads the CAA in wins, complete games, with 17, and strikeouts, with 121. She is second in innings pitched with 140 and fourth in earned run average with a 1.70 mark.

Sloat has 121 strikeouts, fifth best in UD history for a single season and ninth best for a career.

This is the second time Sloat has been named Rookie of the Week. She also has been named CAA Pitcher of the Week on two occasions.
