Delaware’s Slattery named to CoSIDA All-Academic team

Mike Slattery has been named to the Verizon CoSIDA District II All-Academic team.
3:26 p.m., Feb. 23, 2004--University of Delaware junior guard Mike Slattery has been named to the Verizon College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District II All-Academic team.

As a result, Slattery’s name has been placed on the national Academic All-America ballot. The results of that vote will be announced early next month.

Slattery was joined on the District II All-Academic team by Mike Farrell of Lafayette College, Johannes Herber of West Virginia University, Jason Krayl of Monmouth University and Jimmy Tricco of Duquesne University.

A member of the Colonial Athletic Association All-Academic squad last year, Slattery has a 3.329 grade point average in sports management.

He is a three-year starter on UD's men's basketball squad, having started 65 consecutive games and appeared in all 83 games in his UD career. He ranks fourth on the UD career assist list with 414, making him only the second Fightin’ Blue Hen to record 400 career assists before his senior season.

The 5-foot, 11-inch graduate of Germantown Academy is averaging 10.1 points per game and 6.0 assists per game, the latter second-best in the CAA and No. 21 in the nation. His assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.65 this season ranks among the top 25 in the nation and leads the CAA. He is also shooting 39.4 percent from three-point range and leads the team in steals with 40.

CoSIDA District II consists of all NCAA Division I schools in Delaware, Washington, D.C., Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

To be nominated for the Academic All-American team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade point index and be a starter or key reserve for his team.
