Precisionaires win bronze in synchronized skating championships

The Precisionaires
4:17 p.m., March 18, 2004--The University of Delaware’s synchronized skating team, The Precisionaires, took the bronze medal at the 2004 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, held March 2-7 in San Diego, Calif. The competition is one of the most prestigious events in the synchronized skating world, with 2,500 athletes competing in a variety of divisions for top honors.

The Precisionaires skated in the collegiate division against 17 other teams. The group’s theme was survival in the jungle, using the music from the hit television reality show “Survivor.” The winning routine included an ambush, becoming one with nature and getting caught in a storm.

Last year, The Precisionaires came in seventh in this competition.

Coaches Megan O'Donnell and Wendy Deppe said they expected to finish better than seventh, but the team exceeded their expectations. "We've worked so hard this year pushing the envelope artistically, and it really paid off. Our goal was to improve upon last year's seventh place finish; so, to be on the podium was incredible. Their performance was unforgettable, " Deppe said.

Also at the competition were two other synchronized skating teams that train at the University. The Delaware Diamonds finished seventh and the Diamondaires finished ninth in the masters and adult divisions, respectively,
