Scott, Dulebohn third in national skating championships

4:04 p.m., Jan. 10, 2004--Defending champions Tiffany Scott and Philip Dulebohn, who train at the University of Delaware, finished in third place in the 2004 State Farm national championship pairs competition after the free skate program held Friday evening at Philips Arena in Atlanta.

Among other UD pairs skaters, Jennifer Don and Jonathon Hunt finished in fourth place, and Laura Handy and Jeremy Allen finished in fifth place.

Don is also skating in the senior ladies event, and was in ninth place after the short program.

In the ice dance championship, Kendra Goodwin and Brent Bommentre finished in fourth place, Christie Moxley and Aleksandre Kirsanov finished in fifth place and Julia Rey and Philipp Rey finished in eighth place.

In the junior ladies short program competition on Thursday, University of Delaware Figure Skating Club member Kimmie Meissner finished second, trailing Katy Taylor. The two skaters attempted and completed triple flips.

UD skaters have already struck gold with Christine Zukowski winning the novice ladies championship.

In junior pairs competition, Andrea Varraux and David Pelletier finished in third place. Kelly Settelen and Andrew Goldman finished sixth in their first nationals appearance in novice pairs.
