UD’s Nerys, Adams sign NFL free agent contracts

3:51 p.m., April 26, 2004--Jason Nerys and Mike Adams, co-captains of the 2003 NCAA Division I-AA national champion University of Delaware football team, have signed free agent contracts with NFL teams after the professional league’s weekend draft.

Nerys, a 6-foot 4-inch, 295-pound offensive guard, has signed with the New York Jets, and Adams, a 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back, has signed with the San Francisco 49ers.

Nerys was a consensus All-American and a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District II All-Academic team. Adams earned second team All-Atlantic 10 Football Conference honors despite missing four games with a broken bone in his leg.

Two members of the title winning Fightin’ Blue Hens were selected in the draft, both in the sixth round. Defensive end Shawn Johnson was selected by the Oakland Raiders and quarterback Andy Hall by the Philadelphia Eagles.
