Residence hall students reminded to observe security procedures

2:09 p.m., May 12, 2004--Last weekend, University Police reported seven nonforced-entry burglaries in campus residence halls.

“Unkown persons entered unlocked rooms and removed personal property,” Cynthia Cummings, associate vice president for campus life, said. “Fortunately, no personal injuries were reported.”

In a communication to all residence hall residents this morning, Cummings reminded students of the importance of making sure the doors to their residence hall rooms are locked whenever they leave, even if it is just to go down the hall, and when they are asleep.

“Please do not be distracted by the warmer weather and excitement of ending the academic year,” she said. “Protect yourself and your property by locking your room door.”

Students who have been the victim of a crime should contact the University Police at 831-2222. In the case of an emergency or crime in progress, call 911.

Students with concerns or questions should contact their resident assistant or hall director or send e-mail to [reslife@udel.edu].
