Delaware rowing team sweeps dual meet in Florida

12:14 p.m., March 31, 2004--The University of Delaware rowing team swept all three races in a dual meet against host Barry University on March 27 in Miami as part of the Fightin’ Blue Hens’ spring trip to Florida

UD took first and third places in the varsity eights, first and second places in the novice eights and first place in the varsity fours.

In the varsity eights race, UD’s A team of Carolyn Serey, Andrea Placke, Elizabeth McGarry, Janice Brown, Elizabeth McInturff, Laura McDonald, Dawn Hussnatter, Leanna Ferrand and Lane Kohl won with a time of 7:43.8.

Barry was second in 7:48.8 and the UD B team of Nicole Lombardi, Melanie Turner, Lyra Sawzin, Emily McElwain, Maureen Gillen, Dawn'yel Boucek, Laura Muto, Cathy Savarese and Stefanie Lazorick was third in 8:06.7.

In the novice eights, UD’s A team of Alison Harrington, Rachel Thomas, Nicky Bradley, Elizabeth Martin, Lisa Karwoski, Betsy Seeger, Laura Beaufort, Maria Bellumori and Nikki Jackowsky won in a time of 7:56.6.

UD’s B team of Nic Suto, Jenn Boutin, Lynn Hamski, Katie Broullire, Stacey Walczak, Laura Belfi, Lindsay Wood, Christina Stanley and Brie Sheppard was second in 8:38.7.

In the final race of the meet, UD’s varsity fours team of Jill Goldman, Jamie Schoenewald, Susan Carbine, Stephanie Miller and Jess Kostick won in 9:00.6, almost three seconds faster than the Barry crew.

The Hens will compete in a three-way meet with host Bucknell and Lehigh on Saturday, April 3, in Lewisburg, Pa.
