Civil rights activist visits campus May 6

Lifelong civil rights crusader Minnijean Brown Trickey
12:23 p.m., April 9, 2004--Minnijean Brown Trickey, a lifelong civil rights crusader who fought on the frontlines for desegregation, will lecture about her career of social activism at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 6, in Room 120 Smith Hall.

Trickey, one of a group of African-American teenagers known as the “Little Rock Nine,” helped to desegregate Central High during the 1957 civil rights struggles in Arkansas. In the 47 years since, Trickey has continued to fight for the rights of minority groups and the dispossessed. For her work, she has received the U.S. Congressional Medal, the Wolf Award, the Spingarn Medal and several other honors.

The free lecture, which is cosponsored by the Center for Black Culture and Delta Sigma Theta sorority, is open to the public. For more information, call 831-2991.
