Attempted robbery of UD student Oct. 21

11:37 a.m., Oct. 22, 2003--Newark Police are investigating the attempted robbery of a UD student that occurred at 10:50 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21, on Cheltenham Road, near Hillside Road, in the Oaklands development.

The student was walking on Cheltenham Road when a van stopped near him. Two men got out of the van, and one of them pointed a gun at the student and demanded his wallet. The student ran away, and the suspects got back in the van and fled the area. The student was not injured.

The vehicle is a dark green minivan with an angled hood, possibly a Chevrolet or a Pontiac. The suspects were wearing gray hooded sweatshirts and sweat pants. There were two other occupants of the van that the student could not describe.

Anyone with information should contact Det. Bryda at 366-7110, ext. 132, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
