Louis J. Rehberg
 

April 28, 2004--Louis Jerome "Jerry" Rehberg, 68, died March 26 at Christiana Hospital.

Born in rural Phoenixville, Pa., he received a bachelor's degree from West Chester University in 1957 and a master's degree in music education from the University of Illinois 1958.

He was a dedicated teacher of music for 45 years in Dixon, Ill. (1958-1965); at Christiana High School (1965-1973) and Glasgow High School (1973-1991) in Newark; and at Ursuline Academy (1992-2003) in Wilmington. He also served as a district supervisor of music for the Christina School District and worked with UD’s music department.

He served as a mentor throughout his career and was still advising future educators at UD when he entered the hospital.

Mr. Rehberg served as president of the Delaware Music Educators Association and was guest conductor of the Delaware All-State Band. He also composed music, including "The Ridgeway Fight Song" for the film "Dead Poets Society."

Mr. Rehberg was an accomplished cabinetmaker, photographer, golfer, artist and crafter of riddles.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Virginia (Taylor) Rehberg; his two sons, Scott of Chesapeake City, Md., and Eric of San Diego, Calif.; his daughter, Kristin of New York City; his grandson, Sinclair; and his two sisters, MaryLou Hartman of Elverson, Pa., and Rebecca Arnold of Colorado Springs, Colo.
