Teachers of the Year honored

3:37 p.m., April 30, 2004--President David P. Roselle and his wife, Louise, honored the 2004 Delaware Teachers of the Year at a reception on April 28, at the president’s house, followed by dinner at the Blue & Gold Club, hosted by Timothy Barnekov, dean of the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy.

One teacher from each district received a certificate, and the Delaware Teacher of the Year, Rita Hovermale of the Woodbridge School District, was recognized.

Of the 19 Teachers of the Year, 12 had graduated from or were currently enrolled at the University of Delaware, including Lisa Bayko, Cape Henlopen; Kelli Eckert Bradley, Brandywine; Jodi Green, Laurel; Jill Joos, Red Clay Consolidated; David Maloney, Appoquinimink; Melody Miller, Lake Forest; Mary Norton, Indian River; Alison Perdue-Tingle, Seaford; Deborah Phillips, Colonial; Michael Sampere, Polytech; Karen Valentine, Christina; and Ethel White, Milford,

Others honored as Teachers of the Year were Christopher Aiken, Sussex Technical; Hovermale; Michael Kijowski, Caesar Rodney; Karen Ward Lewis, Delmar; Nicholas Mottola, New Castle County Vo Tech; Amy Musto, Smyrna; and Crystal Thompkins, Capital.
