Bus trip to Philly Pops set Dec. 3

3:54 p.m., Nov. 26, 2003--A mid-week bus trip to the Philly Pops holiday concert will treat music-lovers to an evening of holiday tunes performed by renowned contemporary musicians.

Set for Wednesday, Dec. 3, the bus trip to Verizon Hall in center city Philadelphia is sponsored by UD’s continuing education division. The trip, which offers pickup and drop-off service at both Clayton Hall and the parking lot of the Wilmington campus, located at 2800 Pennsylvania Avenue, will depart from Clayton Hall at 6 p.m. Estimated return time to Newark is 11 p.m.

The concert will feature popular Broadway singer Alice Ripley soloing with the Pops Festival Chorus and will be conducted by Peter Nero, founder of the Philly Pops.

Nero, whose solid musicianship, innovative programming and warm, informal stage presence have molded the Philly Pops into one of the largest independent pops orchestras in the country, is also a two-time Grammy Award-winning pianist. Under his direction, the Philly Pops has built a reputation for infusing classical, swing, Broadway, blues and jazz with vibrancy and humor.

The trip is open to the campus community and the general public. Tickets are $65 per individual and advance registration is required. For more information, call 831-1171.
