UD Outdoor Pool memberships sold out

4:30 p.m., July 9, 2003--For the second consecutive year, membership in the University of Delaware’s Outdoor Pool, the largest in the state, has sold out halfway through the season.

James Kaden, manager of the pool and the ice arenas, attributes the enthusiastic response to the low cost of membership, recent renovations and a dynamic marketing campaign.

The community membership fee is $205, and the pool is open for 100 days. Over the years, the University has added “funbrellas” for shade, a fenced-in baby pool, water slides, new deck furniture and landscaping and has renovated the locker room, changing room and snack bar.

“In 1997, we sold 540 memberships. This year, we were sold out by July 8, with 950 memberships, more than 3,000 individuals, and more on the waiting list,” Kaden said.

Individuals can still be put on the waiting list by calling the pool office at 831-2868. Nonmember UD employees and guests with a valid ID can use the pool for a charge of $5 per day, UD students not taking summer classes can use the pool for $3 after showing valid I.D. and summer session students with a valid ID can swim for free.
