Pegues scores 33 in New Zealand league win

11:10 a.m., July 28, 2003--Former University of Delaware basketball star Mike Pegues scored 33 points to lead the Otago Nuggets to a 92-80 victory over the Canterbury Rams in New Zealand National Basketball League action Saturday, July 26.

The victory raised Otago’s record to 7-10 with one week remaining in the regular season.

The New Zealand league allows one American player per team, and Pegues started the season with Canterbury as he filled in for Rams’ star center John Whorton, who was completing a stint with a team in the German league.

When Whorton returned to Canterbury, Otago immediately signed Pegues, who has been among the league’s leading scorers throughout the season.
