New Music Delaware: Festival of Contemporary Music presents Network For New Music Oct. 15 Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $3 for students. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Trabant University Center or Bob Carpenter Center box offices. The program, Rhythm in a World of Sound, features the world premiere of Thomas Whitmans Brahms-inspired Quartet for Piano and Strings. The work of Philadelphia composer Whitman has been described by Opera News as Šdramatic music that soars into lyrical melodies, filled with allusive atmosphere and rich emotional textures. Also featured are Mathew Rosenblums Maggies for ensemble and taped voice and Maurice Wrights Grand Duo. Widely acclaimed for its outstanding performances, the Network for New Music Ensemble has commissioned, premiered and presented a more than 475 new works. According to the Philadelphia Daily News, The Network for New Music has become a powerful force in enlarging the chamber music repertory, with a long list of commissions to its creditŠthe ensembles virtuosity and ability to plumb emotional depths is supported by shrewd programming. New Music Delaware: Festival of Contemporary Music builds on the Department of Musics tradition, dating back to the 1940s, of recognizing the work of living composers. Past featured composers who have visited campus include Vincent Persichetti, Lou Harrison, Aaron Copland, Joan Tower, Robert Ward, John Corigliano and many others.
