UD men’s soccer team defeats Radford in tourney


1:10 p.m., Sep. 2, 2003--The University of Delaware men’s soccer team defeated Radford University to finish 1-1 in the Highlander Classic tournament last weekend on the Radford campus in southern Virginia.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens defeated the host team 2-1 on Sunday, Aug. 31, after falling 2-0 to Virginia Tech in the opener on Friday, Aug. 29.

Delaware returns home for a game against Monmouth University at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5, at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.

Against Radford, UD junior forward David Egosi scored the winning goal with 15:53 remaining. Egosi's goal came just 21 seconds after Radford's Patrick Colas had evened the score, 1-1.

Delaware opened the scoring in the first half when senior co-captain Stephen Mangat assisted sophomore Justin Arpan.

In goal for Blue Hens, junior Kyle Haynes had seven stops, including two standout saves in the final minutes of the match.

In the opening game, Virginia Tech scored both of its goals midway through the second half to secure the victory.
