Festivities begin when head basketball coaches David Henderson and Tina Martin meet with fans and play a game of “HENS.” Also demonstrating their hoop talents will be men’s assistant coaches Billy Martin and Kenney Blakeney and women’s assistant coaches Jeanine Radice and Tyrone Perry.

Joining YoUDee in the fun and festivities and later performing will be the UD Cheerleaders and Dance Team.

The Homecoming Spirit Banner Competition begins at 11:30 p.m. Banners designed by and representing various student groups will be carried around the Frank Acierno Arena, as the groups demonstrate their UD spirit.

At 11:40 p.m., UD’s newest Spirit Ambassadors will be announced. Spirit Ambassadors work to encourage school spirit through a variety of avenues, including interacting with alumni and supporting the Office of Alumni and University Relations by serving as student hosts at campus events.

The new Spirit Ambassadors also will be introduced to the public during halftime in the Homecoming game against Rhode Island on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Midnight Mania also will feature the introduction of the 2003-04 women’s and men’s basketball teams. A scrimmage by the women’s and men’s squads, will begin at 12:15 a.m., followed by a pizza giveaway and a slam-dunk contest.

Activities conclude with the naming of the winners of the Spirit Banner competition. The winning group will parade its banner onto Tubby Raymond Field, just ahead of the entrance of the Fightin’ Blue Hens at the start of Saturday’s Homecoming game. Second- and third-place winners will be recognized through scoreboard messages and public address announcements during the game.
