Bates Lowry
 

March 26, 2004--Art and architectural historian Bates Lowry, 80, who taught at UD at one time, died March 12.

Dr. Lowry was the founding director of the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., and was director of the Museum of Modern Art in New York for a short time in 1968.

A graduate of the University of Chicago, where he also received master’s and doctoral degrees, Dr. Lowry taught there and later held academic positions at Brown University, the University of California at Riverside, the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, Pomona College and the University of Massachusetts.
