James Richards to deliver named professor lecture

James Richards, Distinguished Professor of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences
9:14 a.m., March 30, 2004--James Richards, Distinguished Professor of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences, will deliver the first Named Professor Lecture of the College of Health and Nursing Sciences, beginning at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, in Clayton Hall. A reception will follow in Bayard Sharp Hall.

His topic will be “Figure Skating: A Collision of Convention and Change.”

The director of the Biomechanics Laboratory and former director of the Interdisciplinary Program in Biomechanics and Movement Science, Richards conducts research on sport biomechanics and also rehabilitation biomechanics in conjunction with Freeman Miller at the A.I. du Pont Hospital for Children and Jian Q. Sun, professor of mechanical engineering.

Richards holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut, a master’s degree from UD and a doctoral degree from Indiana University. He served as a teaching assistant at UD from 1976-1978 and joined the faculty in 1980.
