UD president cited for combating campus alcohol abuse 10:46 a.m., June 10, 2004--UD President David Roselle is commended for multiple strategies for combating alcohol abuse on campus in a article published recently in University Business, a magazine for presidents and other senior officers at colleges and universities throughout the United States. The article, The Wasted Years, begins with a compendium of physical, psychological and monetary damages caused by binge-drinking students, then details what college presidents are doing to fight it. It singles out Roselle and University of Rhode Island President Robert Carothers for the strategies that won them the Center for College Health and Safetys Presidents Leadership Group Award for instituting effective alcohol policies. Roselle initiated the first-ever policy in the United States to notify parents when their children's alcohol abuse results in illegal activities. His co-recipient, Carothers, was honored for banning alcohol from all social events on campus, including at fraternities and sororities. The article is posted on the University Business web site at [www.universitybusiness.com/page.cfm?p=549]. University Business is circulated to 42,000 education leaders who manage enrollment, technology, academic affairs and legislation. The magazine covers current and emerging trends in all areas of university and college management. Article by Barbara Garrison To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
