Lecture on Iranian politics set Feb. 13 in Lewes, Seaford

Laurence Seidman, Chaplin Tyler Professor of Economics, discussed the national health insurance crisis Thursday, Feb. 6, in Lewes and Seaford.

2:38 p.m., Feb. 10, 2004--Rudolph Matthee, associate professor of history, will address the complexities of Iranian politics in a lecture on Friday, Feb. 13, titled “Iran’s Revolution After 25 Years: Time for a New One?”

Part of the month-long Land and Sea Lecture Series, Matthee’s lecture will be offered at both 10 a.m. at the Virden Center at the Hugh R. Sharp Campus, 700 Pilottown Rd., Lewes, and again at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Methodist Manor House, 1001 Middleford Rd., Seaford.

Matthee teaches courses in Middle Eastern history at UD. He received his Ph.D. in history from the University of California, Los Angeles, and continues to focus his research on early modern Iran and the Persian Gulf.

His books include “The Politics of Trade in Safavid Iran: Silk for Silver, 1600-1730”; “Iran and Beyond: Essays in Honor of Nikki R. Keddie”; and “Iran and the Surrounding World, 1501-2001: Interactions in Culture and Cultural Politics.” He has published several articles on aspects of Safavid and Qajar Iran and is currently at work on a book about drugs and stimulants in Iranian history.
