Atlantic 10 recognizes UD defensive lineman Johnson

1:45 p.m., Nov. 24, 2003--University of Delaware senior Shawn Johnson has been named the Atlantic 10 Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his play in Saturday’s 20-17 victory over Villanova University.

This was the second citation of the season for the 6-foot 5-inch, 275-pound defensive end, who transferred to UD from Duke University, where he was first team All-Atlantic Coast Conference in 2002.

In Saturday’s victory, Johnson recorded two sacks and forced a fumble. He also has five unassisted tackles, including three for a loss of yardage.

UD held Villanova to 299 total yards in the game and the Wildcats were able to convert just 5-of-14 third downs.

Johnson leads the Atlantic 10 in sacks, with 12, and tackles for loss, with 21.
