The U.S. mortgage finance company Freddie Mac has hired Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance at the University of Delaware, as an adviser in an effort to strengthen its corporate governance structure and restore investor confidence after an accounting scandal, Reuters reports. "Prof. Elson's work is part of our commitment to building and retaining the trust of our stakeholders and to achieving our mission to expand homeownership and affordable rental housing opportunities,'' Shaun O'Malley, chairman of Freddie Mac's board, said.

A biotech database created by Blake Meyers, assistant professor of plant and soil sciences who is affiliated with both the UD College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Delaware Biotechnology Institute, has earned a mention in the Nov. 1 issue of Genetic Engineering News. "Managing enormous databanks is not a trivial task," according to the magazine's Kevin Ahern. "It is for this reason that I am always looking for sites that provide users with simplified access to this information. One of the best I've found is this dandy Java-based Arabidopsis site."
