John Elias, University of Delaware professor of electrical and computer engineering, is highlighted in a Nov. 4 TechWorldNews story on the computer mouse. The story asks what the mouse must do to stay dominant in the computer marketplace. Elias answers: "You might as well ask what must the horse and buggy do to stay dominant, or the typewriter, or the slide rule, or the myriad other things that once dominated but are now long forgotten. It works great for pointing and clicking but that's all it can do."

Chris Clark, director of the University of Delaware School of Education, is quoted in a Nov. 4 Wilmington News Journal story about Nativity Prep and the trend towards tough, back to basics schools. "Schools like this focus on discipline and involve more control by the school over the lives of the kids," Clark said. "The underlying theory is that, 'If we are really tough on these kids now and they survive it, they'll be really tough and scholarly after they leave us.' "

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, is quoted in a Nov. 4 CBS MarketWatch story about the impact of the resignation of Lawrence Lasser as chief executive officer of Putnam Investments. "I don't think [Lasser's] departure is the end of the story," Elson said. "You have to make sure that no one who was involved in any culpable way remains, and you have to institute internal controls to ensure as best you can that it doesn't happen again."

The University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame and its connection to Delaware County, Pa., is highlighted in a sports column in the Nov. 2 Delaware County Daily Times. The column centers on 1940s lineman Tony Stalloni and notes the long line of Delaware County athletes who have played football for the Fightin' Blue Hens, including Fred Rullo, Chuck Hall, Bill Cubit, Ron Withelder, Bill Zwaan and the Mulhern brothers.

The unbeaten Blue Hens get a mention in the Incites sports column in the Nov. 2 Philadelphia Inquirer, which notes: "Creative scheduling. It's a good thing Penn State didn't have to play Delaware this week, instead of a patsy like Ohio State. Huh? Delaware beat Navy last Saturday, which makes the Blue Hens a lot more dangerous than the defending national champion Buckeyes. You'll recall that Navy beat Air Force, Air Force had beaten UNLV, UNLV had beaten Wisconsin, and the Badgers had beaten (aw, you guessed it) Ohio State."

Todd Hranicka, a 1987 University of Delaware graduate who played defensive line for the Fightin' Blue Hens, was featured in a photograph in the Nov. 2 New York Newsday. The license plate on his Harley Davidson reads "BLUHEN."
