UD in the News Baltimore Sun A story in the Sept. 24, 2003, issue of the Baltimore Sun concerning the aftermath of Hurricane Isabel includes the experiences of University of Delaware sociology professor Margaret L. Andersen, who was struck by the way people in her community south of Elkton pulled out generators and attempted to re-establish the normal social order. The story says that people ran extension cords into neighbors' homes so they could share the power. One offered a standing invitation for showers to everybody without generators - and therefore without water. Another made coffee for the neighborhood each morning. Andersen went without electricity until Monday evening, although a neighbor provided her a generator to keep her refrigerator running. Of course we couldn't buy a generator anywhere, Andersen told the Sun, though you can probably believe we will now. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance. Elson told the newspaper that the New York Stock Exchange and other stock exchanges see the funds as the voice of the investor. "They represent large trading positions on the exchange. They're an important voice. Their influence has certainly grown," Elson said.
