“The Fourth R: Conflicts Over Religion in America’s Public Schools,” a new book by Joan DelFattore, professor of English and legal studies, is reviewed in the Education Life section of the Sunday New York Times.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, is quoted in a widely distributed Associated Press story on executive perquisites. “To effectively nickel and dime the company for perks when you’re making millions of dollars is unseemly,” Elson told AP. He also is quoted in a Chicago Tribune story on the McDonald’s succession, in a Bloomberg News story on directors’ pay and in a Wilmington News Journal story on pay for DuPont executives.

Tracy Bachman, Building Responsibility Coalition project coordinator in the Center for Counseling and Student Development, is quoted in an Ivanhoe Newswire story on how colleges are dealing with the issue of binge drinking.

Melva Ware, coordinator at the Delaware Center for Teacher Education, is quoted in a Wilmington News Journal story concerning the issue of school segregation through the use of tiered diplomas.

Ben Yagoda, professor of English, is included in “The Short List: My Favorite Class” in the April 23 issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education. Yagoda’s favorite class is Feature and Magazine Writing.

Bonnie Meszaros, associate director of the University of Delaware's Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship, discussed National Teach Children to Save Day April 27 on radio station WDEL.

William B. Moody, professor of education, discussed the summer Solve It mathematics program for middle school students April 21 on radio station WDEL.

Norman J. Wagner, professor of chemical engineering, is cited in an April 21 U.S. Army press release concerning UD research on liquid armor for the protective Kevlar vests worn by soldiers.

ALUMNI

Joan Hayden, who graduated from UD in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in home economics education, has been named the Harford County (Md.) Teacher of the Year.
