9:40 a.m., April 6, 2004--A roundup of recent news items about UD, its faculty, staff and alumni.

Joan DelFattore, professor of English and legal studies, is featured in an April 6 Wilmington News Journal story on religion in the public schools. The story notes that DelFattore is the author of a new book, “The Fourth R: Conflicts Over Religion in America1s Public Schools.” She also discussed the book last week on WHYY’s Radio Times program.

An April 5 UD lecture by Al-Jazeera broadcast editor Yasser Thabet is featured in stories by the Associated Press and the Wilmington News Journal. Danilo Yanich, associate professor of urban affairs, and Ralph Begleiter, Rosenberg Professor of Communication, are quoted in the stories.

Joshua Duke, assistant professor of food and resource economics, is quoted in a widely distributed April 5 Associated Press story on loopholes in farm preservation tax laws. Duke said there has been much talk about reforming laws governing land preservation tax breaks but that not much has been done.

Jennifer Gregan-Paxton, assistant professor of business administration, is featured in an April 5 Wilmington News Journal story concerning a Winter Session trip to Peru that focused on corporate social responsibility.

Dewey Caron, professor of entomology, and Derby Walker, instructor in entomology, are quoted in an April 5 Wilmington News Journal story about a pending cicada invasion.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, is quoted in an April 4 San Francisco Chronicle story about the practice of senior executives hiring family members.

ALUMNI

Thomas Stiltz, who holds UD bachelor’s and master’s degrees in art, is featured in the Baltimore Sun for his wine-centric still life paintings.
