New spin on old yarn staged April 30-May 7

9:11 a.m., April 29, 2004--The play that launched Carol Burnett’s career and recently gave Sarah Jessica Parker some limelight will enjoy a run at Pearson Hall from April 30 through May 7.

“Once Upon a Mattress,” the Rodgers and Hammerstein remake of the traditional story about the princess and the pea, will be performed by the Harrington Theatre Arts Company (HTAC) at 8 p.m., Friday, April 30; 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., Saturday, May 1; 7 p.m., Sunday, May 2; and 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday, May 6 and 7.

Recently a Broadway hit, the musical comedy retells the children’s fairy tale in a way that takes audience members through a zany underworld of intrigue and plots gone wrong. HTAC’s performance, which is directed by students Lisa Groden and Chip Scott, has 22 student cast members.

Tickets are $5 for students and seniors and $7 for the public. All proceeds go toward operating costs for future HTAC productions. For more information, call Luke Wallis at 837-2116.
