Fall, winter cross ice hockey classes offered at UD
9:55 a.m., Aug. 20, 2003--Cross Ice Hockey, a program designed to develop individual hockey skills in players ages 7 and under, begins Saturday, Sept. 13, as part of the instructional hockey program at UD.
While providing a fun atmosphere, the 10-week program is designed to accelerate the development of individual skills such as skating, stick handling, puck control, passing and shooting. Cost is $245 a player, and $220 for an additional family member.
There are four teams, with 10 players and one goalie per team. Team size ranges from eight to 11 players. Weekly sessions feature a one-hour practice period followed by a period reserved for game play. Junior Blue Hen Cross Ice Hockey exhibition games will be played three-on-three, or four-on-four (as opposed to five skaters on a side), beginning with a short warm-up session, followed by two 15-minute periods and a third period with a duration determined by the amount of ice time remaining in the slot.
Practices and games will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m., Saturdays, at the Gold Ice Arena, and from 7:30-8:30 a.m., Sundays, at the Fred Rust Arena. Participants must have completed at least the Hockey 1 instructional program, or a comparable class to be eligible for cross ice hockey.
Winter 2004 sessions begin Saturday, Jan.3.
An eight-week Summer 2004 session begins Saturday, June 3. Cost for the summer season is $195 a player, with $175 per additional family member.
