Oral history training session offered

3:21 p.m., March 31, 2004--The Delaware Heritage Commission will host its annual oral history training session, presented by Roger Horowitz, associate director of the Center for the History of Business, Technology and Society of the Hagley Museum and Library, from 6:30-9 p.m., Thursday, April 29, at Glasgow High School, Route 896, Newark.

The session is free, but registration is required. For more information or to register, call 577-5044.

First-person recollections of past events, memories and days gone by can enhance the understanding of how things happened in past generations. The session will teach how to capture these stories on audiotape and obtain a lasting memoir.

Museums, civic organizations, authors and especially historical societies, which can save the history of their towns through the memories of residents, can benefit from the session.

Through an oral history program, the commission has published six books of Delaware history and has provided guidance to the Iron Hill Museum, which is currently involved in an effort to interview former students of the Iron Hill School.
