Atlantic 10 recognizes Delaware’s Hall, Mulhern

4:03 p.m., Sept. 29, 2003--The Atlantic 10 Football Conference has named University of Delaware quarterback Andy Hall its Offensive Player of the Week and linebacker John Mulhern its Defensive Player of the Week for their efforts in Saturday’s 24-14 victory over Hofstra University.

Hall, a senior from Cheraw, S.C., rushed for two touchdowns and 159 yards, the second-highest total by a quarterback in Delaware history, in the victory. He also became the fourth Fightin’ Blue Hens quarterback to surpass 1,000 career rushing yards.

Hall’s 85-yard scoring run with 1:29 remaining in the third quarter marked the fifth-longest touchdown run in program history and the longest by a quarterback in the 112-year history of Delaware football.

The quarterback, who transferred to UD from Georgia Tech, also scored on a one-yard run and followed it with a two-point conversion carry. He completed 13 of 22 passes for 131 yards.

Mulhern, a sophomore from Wallingford, Pa., collected a team-high nine tackles, including three for loss, and added two pass breakups in the victory. He leads the team with 29 stops this year.

Against Hofstra, Mulhern registered his first sack of the season. UD allowed just 43 rushing yards and limited Hofstra to its lowest scoring total of the season.

Also this week, the Atlantic 10 named sophomore Steve Baylark of the University of Massachusetts its Rookie of the Week and senior kick returner Wendall Williams of the University of Rhode Island its Special Teams Player of the Week. Baylark ran to 140 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-26 victory over James Madison University, and Williams returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown in a 17-13 victory over Richmond.
