UD grad Groothuis joins mens basketball staff
9:55 a.m., Oct. 17, 2003-Steve Groothuis has been named to the University of Delaware men's basketball staff as an assistant coach, it was announced Thursday by Head Coach David Henderson.
Groothuis replaces John Moseley, who resigned for family considerations this past summer.
"Steven will be a great addition to our staff," Henderson said. "His familiarity with our staff and our system will make his transition smooth. In addition, Steven is a quality person and has a bright future."
Groothuis, a 2002 UD graduate, served as a student-assistant with the Fightin Blue Hens mens basketball team for four years while working toward his bachelors degree in criminal justice.
Last year, Groothuis worked at Youngstown State University as director of basketball operations. In that position, Groothuis coordinated film exchange and community involvement, managed the Youngstown State basketball camps and assisted in team academics and at practices.
Groothuis, 23, has also worked numerous camps, including the North Carolina Basketball School, Eastern Invitational Basketball Camp, Mike Brey Basketball Day Camp, Notre Dame Basketball Camp, David Henderson Basketball School, Duke University Basketball Camp, University of Cincinnati Team Camp, University of Indiana Team Camp and Pocono Invitational Basketball Camp.
