Blue Hen golf team fifth in Don Mershon Classic
10:35 a.m., Oct. 14, 2003--The University of Delaware golf team placed fifth at the Don Mershon Classic played Monday at Indian Valley Country Club in Telford, Pa.
For the second straight tournament, the Fightin Blue Hens were led by freshman Joe McLister, who placed fourth in this event and ninth at the Rehoboth Invitational on Sept. 29.
In the Don Mershon Classic, McLister shot a 74 Sunday and a 78 Monday to finish with a score of 152.
Host Lehigh University won the team title with a score of 618 over the two-day, 36-hole tournament. Lehigh was led by individual medalist Nam Kyu Park, who shot 149 over the 6,859-yard, par 72 course.
Siena also shot a team score of 618 but placed second on a comparison of cards. Fordham was third at 625 followed by Drexel (626), Delaware (631) and Lafayette (632) in the 16-team field.
Also for the Hens, junior Chase Miller was ninth at 155, junior Dan Spiker was 21st at 158, freshman Tyler Kupper was 48th at 166 and freshman Ryan Burk was 72nd at 178.
Delaware will compete at the Hofstra Invitational this weekend at Bethpage Golf Club in New York.
