Delaware golf team opens spring season at W&M

9:04 a.m., March 17, 2004--The University of Delaware golf team, which is coming off a successful fall season, will begin its spring season March 22-23 at the College of William & Mary Invitational at the Kingsmill Resort River Course in Williamsburg, Va.

Led by third-year Head Coach Mike Keogh, the Fightin’ Blue Hens will be competing against many of top teams in the East during the two-day, 36-hole tournament.

Scheduled to compete for UD are freshmen Joe McLister, Steve Banks and Matt Grobstein, sophomore Devin Milowe and junior Dan Spiker.

McLister tied for the team lead with a 75.4 stroke average during the fall and finished the season with a second-place finish at the Temple Invitational. Spiker, the Most Valuable Player each of the past two seasons, placed third at the Temple Invitational and posted a 76.4 stroke average for the fall.

The Hens, who posted four top five team finishes during the fall, are ranked 21st in the region this spring, an improvement from 35th last season.

In addition to the William & Mary Invitational, UD’s spring schedule includes the Drew Upton Classic hosted by Towson University on March 27-28 at Great Hope Golf Club in Westover, Md., the U.S. Naval Academy Invitational on April 3-4 at Annapolis, Md., and the Lafayette Invitational on April 9-10 at Center Valley Country Club in Pennsylvania.

The Colonial Athletic Association championships will be held on April 15-18 at Nansemond Country Club in Suffolk, Va., and the annual Scotty Duncan Memorial will be held on April 24-25 at Back Creek Country Club in Middletown.
