Former U.S. defense secretary speaks at UD April 14

2:27 p.m., April 13, 2004--William Perry, former U.S. defense secretary, will give a lecture on “China: Challenger or Partner?” at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, in Mitchell Hall.

Perry served as secretary of defense under the Clinton administration from February 1994 to January 1997 and was instrumental in fostering military contacts with China and negotiating with North Korea over nuclear weapons.

Perry previously served as deputy secretary of defense and undersecretary of defense for research and engineering. He is now a senior fellow at Stanford University's Institute for International Studies.

The lecture is part of UD’s Global Agenda lecture series on “Enemies List: Not Always What They Seem.” The lectures are free and open to the public.

The lecture series is organized by Ralph Begleiter, UD’s Rosenberg Professor of Communication and distinguished journalist in residence, and cosponsored by the University of Delaware and the World Affairs Council of Wilmington.
