Posters showcase varied GIS uses

Transportation engineer Anuj Gupta
7:52 a.m., May 28, 2004--Current bus routes in New Castle County may suffice for decades to come, according to a poster on public transit by Anuj Gupta. The poster was one of several presented at Advanced GIS (geographic information systems) Poster Presentations Monday, May 24, in Penny Hall.

Gupta, a transportation engineer studying for a master’s in civil engineering, used GIS software to make maps showing current households per acre, current bus routes and the number of projected future households.

While the printed data was voluminous, it was instantly clear from the poster that bus routes probably will not need to be expanded in the next 25 years because population will move out of the northernmost tip of the county, according to Gupta.
