Visiting sociologist lectures on unsolved mystery Feb. 26

2:38 p.m., Feb. 3, 2004--Julia Monarrez, a sociologist and professor at the Colegio de la Frontera Norte in Mexico, will speak from 2-4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 26, in Rooms 209-211 at the Trabant University Center.

Her lecture, “Killing the Girls: The Unsolved Serial Murders of Ciudad Juarez,” will focus on the unsolved murder and mutilation of more than 240 young women in Ciudad Juarez, El Paso’s sister city, beginning in the 1990s and continuing to the present.

The lecture is cosponsored by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, the Department of Sociology, the Minority Scholars Fund of the Office of Multicultural Affairs/Campus Diversity, the Women’s Studies Interdisciplinary Program, the Office of Women's Affairs Visiting Women's Scholars Fund and the Latin-American Studies Program.
