3:05 p.m., Dec. 4, 2003--UD’s Blue & Gold Club hosted a gingerbread house-making workshop Monday, Dec. 1. Club manager Laura DelPercio and Christine Marroni, assistant manager, instructed participants of all ages how to decorate their gingerbread houses using icing and a wide variety of candy.

One Blue & Gold Club member, Sara Funaiock, brought a friend with her. “I thought it would be fun, something fun and nice to decorate with,” she said about her handmade gingerbread house.

Madalyn, 5, and Elisabeth Davis, 3, appeared to have a great time eating candy while decorating their gingerbread house. Meanwhile, adults at the next table made close to professional looking houses.

Each house was distinctive. Laura Balascio and daughter Phoebe, 6, made a log cabin-inspired gingerbread house out of pretzel rods.

Refreshments were provided, along with the gingerbread recipe so that participants could be make more gingerbread houses at home.

Gwendolyn Davis, administrative assistant in the Office of the Vice President and University Secretary, built and decorated a house with help from both of her granddaughters. “This is one of the best things the Blue & Gold Club has done,” she said.
