Faculty forum to discuss copyright and intellectual property issues Oct. 28
9:35 a.m., Oct. 17, 2003--James G. Neal, vice president for information services and university librarian at Columbia University, will visit the University of Delaware on Tuesday, Oct. 28, to speak in the University Faculty Forum. The event is open to all members of the University community.
The forum, which will be held from noon to 2 p.m. of the Rodney Room at the Perkins Student Center, will focus on copyright and intellectual property rights in contemporary networked academic environments. Those attending will have the opportunity to ask Neal questions and discuss related topics. A free buffet lunch is included.
In his current position at Columbia University, Neal provides support for academic computing throughout a system of 22 libraries. He also works with the Electronic Publishing Initiative at Columbia, the Center for Research in Information Access and the Columbia Center of New Media Teaching and Learning.
Before taking his post at Columbia University, Neal served as dean of university libraries at both Indiana University and Johns Hopkins University. He has represented the American library community in testimony on copyright matters before Congressional committees and was an adviser to the U.S. delegation at the World Intellectual Property Organization diplomatic conference on copyright.
