Faculty Forum registration deadline is Tuesday

4:26 p.m., March 8, 2004--Tuesday, March 9, is the deadline for faculty, staff and students to register for Friday’s Faculty Forum. The noontime lecture in the Multipurpose Room at the Trabant University Center will explore copyright laws and intellectual property issues, particularly as they relate to those who use the Internet for academic research projects.

Sponsored by the Office of the Provost, “Copyright, Faculty and Fair Use” is part of the ongoing Faculty Forum lunchtime lecture series.

Laura N. Gasaway, professor of law and director of the law library at the University of North Carolina, will be the featured speaker. One of the leading consultants in the nation in the field of copyright law, Gasaway is recognized as an expert in technology and cyberspace copyright issues. She has lectured and written extensively on copyright issues and currently serves as the virtual scholar-in-residence for the Center for Intellectual Property at the University of Maryland.

“The complexities of copyright and fair use and their effect on scholarly communication as well as the need for dissemination of research information permeate the academic environment,” Provost Dan Rich said of the upcoming forum. “I am confident that the entire University community will learn from Ms. Gasaway.”

The lecture will include a complimentary buffet-style lunch, beginning at 11:30 a.m., and members of the audience will have ample opportunity, after the lecture, to ask Gasaway questions.

The free event is open to members of the University community, but advance registration is required by 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 9. For more information and to register, e-mail Joan Stock at [joans@udel.edu].
