New prescription drug formulary effective Jan. 1 2:55 p.m., Dec. 22, 2003--The state of Delaware and Express Scipts will mail a copy of the 2004 Prime Formulary to the home address of UD faculty and staff who participate in the group medical plans. This excludes those covered under the Basic Plan. Effective Jan. 1, the listing summarizes medications commonly prescribed under the State of Delaware Group Health Insurance Plan. The current three-tier co-payment costs, the Generic Plus Choice program, Step Therapy and the 90-day mail order incentive will remain in effect. However, approximately 75 drugs have changed categories. Among the more widely used drugs are Celebrex and Bextra. Employees currently using these medications and any others moving to nonpreferred brand will receive information shortly giving them the preferred brand drug alternatives. Individuals who elect to use the same medication after it is moved to the nonpreferred brand list will notice an increase in cost with their next refill. The 2004 Prescription Drug formulary (in abbreviated form) can be found at [http://www.udel.edu/Benefits/Formulary.pdf]. Employees are advised to check the new list and share a copy of the updated formulary with their physicians. Jan. 1 is the annual date when drugs move from preferred to nonpreferred status.
