| Blue Hen football 9th, 11th in Division I-AA polls |
11:50 a.m., Sept. 9, 2003 --The University of Delaware football team is ranked No. 9 in the USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division I-AA poll and No. 11 in the Sports Network poll.
The Fightin’ Blue Hens were ranked No. 18 in the preseason USA Today/ESPN poll, jumping nine spots after the 41-7 victory over The Citadel on Saturday night. UD jumped three spots in the Sports Network poll.
Western Illinois is the top ranked team in both polls.
In the USA Today/ESPN poll, Western Illinois is followed in the top 10 by Georgia Southern, Western Kentucky, McNeese State, Villanova, Northeastern, Bethune-Cookman, Furman and UD.
In the Sports Network poll, Western Illinois is followed in the top 10 by Georgia Southern, McNeese State, Western Kentucky, Northeastern, Villanova, Bethune-Cookman, Furman, Fordham and Massachusetts.
The Atlantic 10 Football Conference, in which Delaware competes, is well represented in the polls. UD, Villanova, Northeastern and Massachusetts are all conference members.
