7:47 p.m., Dec. 13, 2003--The University of Delaware football team is Tennessee bound.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens defeated Wofford College 24-9 in an NCAA Division I-AA playoff semifinal game Saturday afternoon at Delaware Stadium before a boisterous crowd of 14,351.

The Hens advanced to the championship game to be played against undefeated Colgate University at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 19, in Chattanooga, Tenn. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Colgate advanced to the final with a 36-24 victory over Florida Atlantic University.

The Hens are now 14-1, setting a UD record for the most wins in a season.

UD’s hard-hitting defense limited Wofford’s high-powered rushing offense to just 136 yards on the ground and 71 passing.

Delaware's Germaine Bennett (#2) rushed for 181 yards to break Delaware's single season rushing record of 1,565 yards.

The Hens were led by running back Germaine Bennett, who gained the all-time UD record for rushing yards in a season by running around and through the Wofford defense for 186 yards on 31 carries. Bennett also had three touchdowns.

UD Head Coach K.C. Keeler said after the game that he counts Bennett among the top running backs in Division I-AA.

Antawn Jenkins ran for 41 yards in 13 carries, and UD quarterback Andy Hall had 31 yards in six carries. Hall also had 12 completions in 19 attempts for 130 yards.

UD gained a total of 388 yards, 258 on the ground.
