The Fightin’ Blue Hens are in the NCAA Division I-AA top 20

3:10 p.m., Aug. 29, 2003--The University of Delaware football team is making preparations for its season opener against The Citadel on Saturday night, Sept. 6, at Delaware Stadium.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens, included in the NCAA Division I-AA top 20 in several preseason polls, hope to improve on last year’s 6-6 mark. One of those losses was 24-20 to The Citadel in a game played in Charleston, S.C.

Kickoff for the AstraZeneca Day game is 7 p.m. Tickets are available on campus now at the Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center box office and after Sept. 1 at the Trabant University Center box office. Tickets also are available through Ticketmaster at (302) 984-2000 or online at [www.ticketmaster.com].

UD is led by second-year Head Coach K.C. Keeler and senior quarterback Andy Hall, who will work behind an experienced front line that includes All-America candidate and team co-captain Jason Nerys. Fellow co-captain Mike Adams anchors a strong defensive secondary.

Quarterback Willie Simmons, a transfer from Clemson University, leads The Citadel, which competes in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs will open their season against Charleston Southern University on Saturday, Aug. 30.
