Free financial know-how conference set March 13

4:32 p.m., March 8, 2004--For those who have abandoned their New Year’s resolutions to reduce their debt, there’s no time like the present to get back on track. Expert advice on debt reduction and other financial management topics will be offered at an Investor Education Conference from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 13, in Clayton Hall.

The keynote speaker, Patricia Barber, will present practical solutions for reducing debt and building investment funds. Barber is a UD Cooperative Extension family financial management specialist.

The free public event is one of four investment education conferences offered statewide in March by the Securities Division of the State Attorney General’s Office. All the sessions feature reputable investment information from unbiased experts who are not in the business of selling investment products.

“My presentation will be especially useful for people who have tried to reduce debt and have been frustrated by failure,” Barber said. “I help people find the payback strategies that will work for them, including an effective technique I call ‘power payments.’”

With power payments, one debt is paid off, then the amount being paid is used for other debts, Barber explains. When the second debt has been paid off, the total monthly payment is applied to a third debt, and so on.

Other conference topics include planning for retirement, investing basics, choosing a financial adviser and managing money after a life crisis. To register, call (302) 577-8930.
