UD field hockey slips to No. 17 in national poll

11:10 a.m., Oct. 21, 2003--The University of Delaware field hockey team has dropped two spots to No. 17 in the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association NCAA Division I poll announced Tuesday.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens are 10-6 after four consecutive losses, including a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the third-ranked University of Maryland on Sunday.

UD is one of three Colonial Athletic Association teams in the top 20, with Old Dominion University ranked No. 9 and the College of William & Mary ranked No. 14. Two other CAA teams, Virginia Commonwealth and Hofstra universities, received votes but were not ranked.

The Hens will play at Hofstra at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 24.

The Atlantic Coast and Big 10 conferences dominate the national poll, with Wake Forest ranked No. 1, followed by Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Princeton, Old Dominion and Iowa.
