Hen field hockey climbs to No. 11 in national poll
9:15 a.m., Oct. 7, 2003--The University of Delaware field hockey team has climbed one rung in the new STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association NCAA Division I poll, skipping past Northeastern University to claim the No. 11 spot.
The Fightin Blue Hens are 10-2 after weekend victories over James Madison and Virginia Commonwealth universities.
Wake Forest University continues to hold the No. 1 spot, followed by North Carolina, Maryland, Duke, Michigan, Iowa, Old Dominion, Penn State, Michigan State, Princeton and Delaware.
Three Colonial Athletic Association teams are in the top 20, led by Old Dominion and Delaware. The College of William & Mary has entered the rankings at No. 19.
A key weekend of action is in store as the Hens will play at William & Mary at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 10, and at Old Dominion at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12.
