Fightin’ Blue Hens climb Division I-AA football polls

9:53 a.m., Sept. 16, 2003--The 2-0 University of Delaware football team is ranked eighth in both the new Sports Network and USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division I-AA polls after Saturday’s 44-14 victory over the University of Richmond.

Delaware is one of three Atlantic 10 Football Conference teams in the elite eight. Northeastern University is ranked fourth in the Sports Network poll and fifth in the USA Today/ESPN poll, and Villanova University is ranked fifth in the Sports Network poll and fourth in the USA Today/ESPN poll.

Delaware climbed three spots in the Sports Network poll. McNeese State University holds the top spot, followed by Western Illinois, Western Kentucky, Northeastern, Villanova, Georgia Southern, Bethune-Cookman, Delaware, Furman and Montana. Other Atlantic 10 teams in the top 20 are Massachusetts, ranked No. 12, and Maine, ranked No. 16.

The Blue Hens climbed one spot in the USA Today/ESPN poll. McNeese State is ranked No. 1, followed by Western Illinois, Western Kentucky, Villanova, Northeastern, Georgia Southern, Bethune-Cookman, Delaware, Furman and Montana. Massachusetts is ranked No. 12 and Maine is ranked No. 15.
